Want to sleep on your dead pet?

What could be more comforting than the memories of your late pet laid to rest beneath your sleeping head? If a cherished pet's death leaves you sleepless and missing that warm, furry embrace, then Patricia Moore of Naples, Fla., may have the answer: pillows stuffed with your pet's ashes.

Moore started Soft-Hearted Products after she lost her own dog, Samantha. Samantha was cremated and her ashes were returned to her owner in an urn that felt cold and impersonal.

"She was always with me," Moore said. "On my lap, on my bed, next to me. I missed that so much."

Howlin' Good Music

What happens when a bunch of musicians who really listen to what their dogs are saying get together and produce music?

Some dog loving Chicago-area musicians, under the direction of mastermind Bob Dorman, have created Dog Tracks -- Songs by Dogs.

Songs include "Mama Was a Mutt," "I Gotta Go O-U-T," and "Please Come Home."

My favorite is "Take Me Home" because Dog Tracks -- Songs by Dogs is a novel, entertaining idea, but it is also a great way to help animal rescue and adoption organizations - $1.00 from each CD sold is automatically donated to help pet shelters.

The Dog Tracks -- Songs by Dogs website is a fun place to visit. You can listen to clips of all the songs, meet the musicians, and find rescue organizations in your area to volunteer at or donate to.

According to an article by Sharon Peters in USA Today, only 141 CD's have been sold so far. But Bob Dorman is looking at this in a very positive way

"I know it sounds crazy, but our goal is to sell 1 million copies. That would be 5,000 dogs saved. Well, we've only got 999,859 sales to go."

Maybe we can help - let's all go to www.dogtrackscd.com and BUY A CD.

Skamper Ramp Dog Boat Ramp

Thousands of dogs drown in pools each year.
Senior Pet Products has a solution.

According to the American Pet Association over 71 % of the population own pets, and 51 % of the population own a pool or spa. Together these numbers could spell big trouble for the pets and their owners alike. It is common knowledge that dogs swim by nature; they paddle around in water with little to no difficulty, but getting out of the water is something entirely different. Pets do not usually die because of their lack of swimming skills, but by exhaustion and their inability to exit the body of water.

The Skamper Ramp Dog Boat Ramp - a white, box-corrugated, hi-tech plastic ramp attaches to the side of the pool, walled pond, and even most boats and docks. Animals can see it — day or night — and they "skamper" out on the ramp.
It provides animals with a way out of their water entrapment.

A dog-friendly car from Honda

Now, at a time when much of the auto industry is going to the dogs, Honda is actively chasing dogs. The company has designed a Dog Friendly version of its Element, a vehicle that was shown at this month's New York Auto Show. Honda says the vehicle will go on sale this fall. The special package likely will contain:

  • A cushioned pet bed in the cargo area on an elevated platform.

  • An extendable loading ramp. (Did you ever try and lift a Shepherd into an SUV?)

  • A 12-volt rear ventilation fan.

  • Second row seat covers in a dog-pattern that matches the pet bed fabric.

  • A spill-resistant bowl and all-season rubber mats with a bone pattern.

  • Special Edition emblems.

Positive feedback for i-pets.com

Hi.

I couldn't find a place to submit my comment on i-pets.com so I found your blog which I enjoy and now follow! Anyway, I wanted to send you some positive feedback before my 2nd order!

In January I was in search of some bulk rawhide retriever rolls for my 1 year old lab/shepard mix Ginger. She goes through them so fast and does not like the ones that are knotted (she never eats the second knot) or more challenging. Tired of price increase of rawhide even at Wal-Mart I went online. I found i-pets and when I found your irregulars on sale I was excited yet leery.

I wasn't sure if your site was legit and wondered how you could afford to have them so cheap for 10 POUNDS when i was paying the same amount for just 8 to 10 single rolls at the store. I gave it a try and a few days later a big box came in the mail! a huge bag of retriever rolls was inside and Ginger immediately knew what they were! I gave her one and she quickly gobbled it up.

It is a little over 2 months later and I just gave Ginger her last rawhide. She has had no issues and I did not notice any odd colors or staining or smells. The fact that the 10 pounds lasted me over two months and for the same price at the store it would only bought 3 weeks or less it was a great buy!

I just wanted to comment because I know I was leery to order and would have enjoyed a personal reference.

Thank you i-pets! I will be ordering from you every few months for as long as you keep offering such great deals and will pass on your information to all my family and friends with pets!

Thanks for letting me share! Here is Ginger to say Thank you, too,

Elizabeth

Deer Antlers: Tough Chews for Tough Dogs

Naturally shed deer antlers
100% organic - now for sale at i-pets.com

Male white-tailed deer (bucks) have antlers during spring, summer, and winter moths. The antlers naturally fall off, or "shed" in late winter, early spring, when mating season is over.

Antlers are made of dead bone - they are a great alternative to rawhide chews, especially for dogs who are aggressive chewers or who have a sensitive digestive system, disturbed by the fat and protein in rawhide chews.

Antlers on deer are bone material.

During growth they are covered with a skin that helps provide blood and nutrients to the antler.

When the antler growth stops due to testosterone-levels rising in the animal, the skin is rubbed off - this creates the colorization and "staining" of the antler.

The antlers carried by i-pets.com are "natural sheds," collected in the forests of Illinois. Deer have not been harmed to collect these antlers. Because they were gathered in the wild, we have washed them with a mild peroxide solution, just to be sure they are dirt and germ free.

Deer antlers are a clean, odorless, non-staining, non-greasy treat to keep active chewers busy. The antlers will not crumble or splinter and harm your dog.

In the wild, shed antlers are not around for too long - they are a favorite treat for wild animals - even squirrels and rodents love them because they are rich in minerals and calcium.

But not all dogs like antlers.

Just as some dogs aren't crazy about rawhide or pig ears, there are those who aren't attracted to antlers, either.

Because antlers are odorless, your dog might not be aware of their excellent chewability. Try rubbing on a little peanut butter or some beef juice left over from your steak dinner when introducing antlers for the first time.

As with all treats, please supervise your pet carefully, especially the first few times you're offering this new treat.

(Holly, pictured above, is a four-month old pup, who really, really likes deer antlers. She says they're much more enjoyable than the table legs she was chewing before.)
