Rooney when competing in World Cup Africa 2010 |
England forward Wayne Rooney has gained recognition from FIFA for his World Cup 2010 performances despite his failure to repeat anything in the same ball park to his form at Manchester United.
Rooney, 24, went into the World Cup in South Africa on the back of a sensational season, but failed to get on the score sheet in the tournament, or look like doing so.
Fifa’s report described Rooney as a "hard-working, energetic striker; worked hard for team; good technique", rating him as our second best performer at the Championships.
And FIFA’s assessment of the England team in South Africa?
The Three Lions contained "strong, hard-working players" with "aerial strength used effectively at set pieces in defence". It further picked out their "rapid transition from defence to attack", "attacks using the width" and "effective use of full-backs".
