My good friend Barb had a dream. Actually, she has many dreams and is excellent at making them come to life. One of her dreams was to have Powell River become a supportive environment for writers. She envisioned having a Writer's Festival that would help local writers become better at their craft, and attract authors and readers from surrounding areas to our wonderful town.
With the assistance of two fellow authors, the first Powell River Festival of Writers was held in Spring 2004. Each year since, there has been a one day Fall Writer's Workshop and a multi-day Spring Writer's Festival. And each year they've gotten bigger and better. Here's your chance to participate.
Vancouver Island University Powell River Campus
3960 Selkirk Avenue
9:00 a.m. to 3:15 p.m.
This year the guest speaker is Sylvia Taylor, one of the new patrons for the Writer's Conference Society. Sylvia, an award-winning freelance writer, editor and instructor from the Vancouver area, will be speaking on the following topics:
- Writing Query Letters
- How to Write and Articlette
Thanks to Barb for another successful writer's workshop. Put the spring Powell River Writer's Conference on your calendar. Two fun-filled days are scheduled for April 9-10. Stop by their website for updates. -- Margy
