SRK seeks tax exemption for IPL tickets

Superstar Shah Rukh Khan will be able to save about Rs 40 lakh only if the West Bengal government agrees to waive off the entertainment tax during the IPL matches at Eden Garden. Apparently, the BCCI has issued letters to all its franchisees asking them to request various state governments that the purpose behind the IPL is to promote cricket.

“We have issued letters to all our franchisees that is to be submitted to the state government,’’ explained Rajiv Shukla, chairman of the entertainment committee of the IPL on Thursday. “The letter clearly states that IPL is to promote the game of cricket and not for any other commercial purpose. The 10 minutes of entertainment which will be provided during the break will also focus on sport.’’

Most of the state governments—Maharashtra, AP, Delhi and TN —have agreed to waive it off, he added and hoped the West Bengal government too will follow suit.
